What I understand

The study shows that poetry writing is helpful in creating venues for L2 writers to become aware of linguistic, cultural, and emotional use of their first and second language.

First, I’ll introduce what was done on this study. Then, this research investigates how L2 express their emotions through verbal interactions and how L2 users narrate their personal stories.

My name is Joji Ishida, 19 years old. And, I’m from Numata in Gunma. I’m in second grade of English major. I attend Gunma University. My hobby is climbing mountains. I would often clime mountains when I was high school students. I also like Japanese idols. I go to the concert once in the months. I have been studying English for 8 years old since the 6 grade of elementary school in Japan.

This poem describes a moment when I found how difficult I talked with my mother in English. This was happen in chatting with my mother in home or her car or something. This doesn’t depend on time. Anytime this happened. At first, I couldn’t express my thoughts or ideas because I was a beginner of English when I was a junior high school student. it was difficult for me to speak English so,I was about to stop studying English, but I want to talk with my mother and I never stop that.

Cram school in elementary school

This is my first experience I started studying English. In my memories, I couldn’t say any words in English.

Cram school in junior high school

I can say this is the strongest memories in my early English. Without this experience, I can’t exist here. This cram school was not only very hard but also very interesting because only by joining this cram school we can learn English very effectively. I think it is not communicative English but it was very nice

English activities in elementary school

I don’t like English and also hate English at that time. What I liked is English activities. Just Activities. By learning English words I was completely bored at that time. Hahaha

English class in junior high school

I had a good time in English class. Thanks to cram school, There is not what I don’t know. I got 100 points in exam!

Conversations with my mother

My mother is not Japanese, Philippines. So she uses Tagalog as L1 and English as L2. At first, I had difficulties to talk with my mother in English, but by talking in English we can express what we think better than Japanese . This was a big motivation

My mother has many friends because she is catholic. I was send to a church, and talk with her friends so many times

Studying for university exams

This is the worst experience because this was not independent learning. This is the force studying. Here is Japan so I know we have to study English very hard. But what I learn from this study is nothing except for high abilities to scam English grammar and structures

Learning English in university

I got free because my examinations are over! Yeah! This was the first time I read so many Extensive Reading books. This is good but I thought this faculty don’t have many chances to study English

Watching movies with subtitles

I could English with fun and moving pictures. This is good but sometimes I forgot to read subtitles because I focus on stories hahaha.

Studying for English competence

I had studied English for English competencey exam two times. But thanks to studying usually, I don’t know the details.

What I understood

The aim of this study was to investigate how traumatic event influences the poetical expression of L2 learners. This research was conducted by a Japanese public university. In the research, participants can choose if they write poem in relation to earthquake. As the result, the author found that their writings tend to be written from first person perspectives and use the present tense. In addition to this, L1 transfer occurred such as the influence of Japanese linguistic and rhetorical knowledge on L2 poetic texts. We can say the earthquake poetry their direct response and emotional concerns for their traumatic life experiences.

My favorite poem and why I chose it

My favorite poem is ”Look up!” because it strongly shows poet’s hope or lights in the future. I was very moved by this poem in terms of the following reason. First, ‘people are in surprise People in sad’ this shows poet’s sadness, however, in the next paragraph it turns into hope or light. Of course he is not in sadness but feels bright future in his brain. And who is like him will show us his hope and open a new world we can’t find. That’s why I chose this poem. I’m strongly looking forward to his world and want him to write a poem after several years.

What I learned from this poem is that keeping on believing beats sadness. And action is very important thing as the means to relieve human’s heart.

Hello, I am Joji Ishida. I will post my idea

on the article I read in a class of the last week.

First of all, I will refer to what I understand on this article. There is Narimatsu point. First, I found poem has many aspects like culture, history, and so on. Of course, there are each ways to study their genres. For example, if you study a certain poem as historical poem, you need learn about archeology. Second, poem shows us unique system of languages. By researching it, we can approach a goal what are languages.

It was little difficult for me to understand this article. However, I was so impressed by the idea on poem. I think poem is one of very important aspects of languages. Because it has a unique system. In addition to this, it tell us the feeling or what someone saw, what someone felt and so on. It seems to be natural. But, it tells us them in detail.
